“Grammarian is a Toastmasters role that bothers some members, as they might feel that they need an impeccable grasp of English grammar. However, they need not fear if they have doubts by following Ben’s slightly different tactic. His “Golden Rule” from today’s meeting was for us to listen out for the vivid language and active phrases of each speaker, such as ‘the wind rushing through my hair’.
When Ben then gave his Grammarians Report near the end of the meeting, he had a well-prepared list of examples that had been used by each speaker. It showed just how intently he had been listening as he repeated to us a long string of colourful and active language that had been used. The positive reinforcement of speaker’s creativity by Ben is the type of encouragement that spur our member’s creativity for future meetings. Thanks, Ben.
